The district Instructional Core Team is reading Mike Schmoker's book Focus. I've been impressed and pleased at the amount of overlap between Schmoker's recommendations and what we heard from the college faculty on March 4 at our inservice. In the book, Schmoker recommends the kind of writing we talked about on March 4 in the two panel discussions. One concern that comes along with using more writing -- in any class -- is the question of when one has time to GRADE all that writing. This link to Schmoker's site contains his answer to that question. If you're wondering what we might do with what we've heard about writing and you want a clue as to our direction, read the book.
